Masters Swimming


Gaucho Masters swimming is committed to helping increase the physical fitness of swimmers of all levels from novice swimmers to highly competitive swimmers, triathletes, and open water swimmers. We offer a structured workout program that meets the needs of a fitness swimmer, multi sport athlete, or a competitive swimmer. This program is open to the public. Experienced coach John Abrami offers the latest in training methodology and stroke technique to make your swimming experience more successful. Come join us in the pool! Please note**This is NOT a learn to swim program, you should have prior formal swimming experience.

Gaucho Masters offers a month-by-month registration option – $60 – $64 (students, faculty, public). NO recreation center pass is required.

Pool Facility

Gaucho Masters Swimming is located at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) – Recreation Center Pool

The facility features a large, 50 meter x 25 yard pool, a small 25 yard pool, a hot tub

Meet the Coach

John, known as Coach AB, is a Proud Gaucho Alumni and has been a life-long competitive athlete, starting out as a competitive swimmer and runner and now also competes as a multisport athlete.  He’s been a professional age group and Masters swim coach for over 40 years and is the Head Coach of Gaucho Masters Swimming at UCSB as well as the Head Coach for the UCSB Triathlon Club.  John is a UESCA certified Triathlon coach and spends a lot of time encouraging athletes to try new things.  He has helped build a robust swim and multisport culture in his community.
