The Clinic Starts at UCSB’s Rec Center Pool for Technique Work
Meet at 9:00 AM on the Pool Deck
9:00 – 10:00 AM
We’ll cover swim technique and perform helpful drill work to help you improve your general swimming skills and prepare you for great open water swimming.
Then We’ll Head over to Goleta Beach for Open Water Skills Work
10:30 – 12:00 AM
This is where we’ll hit the open water and work on skills specifically related to the challenges of the ocean and skills you’ll need to swim confidently in race conditions.
Goleta Beach Open Water Clinic
All levels are welcome! We will start the clinic at 9:00 AM at the UCSB Rec Center Pool, and then will head down to Goleta beach to complete the clinic in the open water.
Our goal is to help athletes feel confident in the open water and to improve the many skills involved is safe and efficient racing and event participation.

Coach John Abrami
Professional Swim Coach | UESCA Certified Triathlon Coach
John, known as Coach AB, is a long-time active member of the Santa Barbara athletic culture. His athletic career started out as a competitive swimmer and runner and now also competes as a multisport athlete. He’s been a professional age group and Masters swim coach for over 40 years and is the Head Coach of Gaucho Masters Swimming at UCSB as well as the Head Coach for the UCSB Triathlon Club. John is a UESCA certified Triathlon coach and spends a lot of time encouraging athletes to try new things. He has helped build a robust swim and multisport culture in our Santa Barbara Community.
