Training Program Details:

Welcome to our 2022 Triathlon Training Program! This program is for all levels, and assumes that you have a minimum of basic swim and cycling skills. We meet weekly on Sundays throughout the program, and each Sunday workout will include an open water swim and either a bike or run workout. Check out our FAQ’s below for more details!

We are training for the Santa Barbara Triathlon Sprint Triathlon which will be held on Sunday, August 28th, 2022. The sprint triathlon distances are 500 yards ocean swim, 6 mile bike and a 2 mile run. (**Note: event registration is not included in the training program fee. Athletes are responsible to register for the event if they desire to compete. Participation in the event is not required.)

Here are the basics of equipment that you need for this program:

  • A safe, functional bike (please ensure your bike is in good working order)
  • Flat repair kit
  • Bike helmet
  • Water bottle cage and bottle for your bike
  • Wetsuit (optional but recommended)
  • Swim Cap
  • Swim goggles
  • Running shoes
  • Running watch (preferably a GPS watch)

  • Sunglass
  • Cycling shorts/jersey or Triathlon Suit
  • Personal swim buoy

Our goal race is the Santa Barbara Sprint Triathlon (swim/bike/run) or Duathlon (run/bike/run). It is on Sunday, August 28th. Event registration is not included in the training program fee and every athlete will be responsible to register for the event. Participation in the goal event is optional. You are welcome to join us even if you’d prefer not to race or are targeting a different race.

Group workouts are every Sunday throughout the training program. The workouts will include an open water swim (lifeguard is present and all swimmers will stay in a small area for additional safety), as well as either a bike or run workout. We will alternate locations between Leadbetter Beach and East Beach, with one workout happening at Goleta Beach. Swims will begin at 8:00 AM and the bike or run workouts will begin at 9:00 AM. We always start each of our workouts with a quick “Check-In” to get more acquainted with each other.

You will receive a Friday email each week with reminders and details so you’ll always know what’s happening on Sundays. You will be reminded of what to bring each week as it will vary based on the intended workout.

Our group workouts are friendly and welcoming. There are many levels of athlete represented so everyone feels at home, in a non-intimidating atmosphere. We focus on making workouts fun.

We also have an optional Strength workout add-on and for those who purchase those, they are live Zoom Workouts that can be attended at 5:30 PM Pacific on Tuesdays and Thursdays, or they can be done from a recording of the workout that is sent out just after the live workout is complete. If you sign up for these workouts, you’ll receive a special email with specific information.

We require that you have the basic ability to swim (this is not a learn-to-swim program) and safely ride a bike. You do not need to be advanced in these skills. We will help you develop them over the 10 week program. You do not have to have open water swim experience.

We are happy to welcome all levels of athlete. We often have first-time triathletes train with us, so if you’ve never done a triathlon before, you’ll be right at home. We also have experienced, competitive athletes train with us!
